Vattenfall automate their SAP change and release management process
Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest generators of electricity and largest producer of heat. The Parent Company, Vattenfall AB, is 100%-owned by the Swedish state. Core markets are Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. In 2010 operations were also conducted in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Poland and the UK.
When Vattenfall went live with their new SAP billing system they faced what most SAP utilities customers do - how do we support our critical live system, while at the same time driving the next wave of functionality that could not be delivered as a part of the production go-live?
How did we help?
Vattenfall looked out into the market for a tool that could support dual track SAP development. With a massive footprint in the Utilities space, Transport Expresso was selected as the only tool of choice. Transport Expresso itself had been supporting SAP customers run dual/multi track development since 2003 and within a matter of 5 days, the product had been put into place to govern and control the entire SAP change and release management process.
What was achieved?
Apart from the key component of being able to run dual and multi track development, massive automation of the change and release management process was achieved. Out of 35 key steps involved in their SAP change and release management process, Transport Expresso was able to automate over 60% of them. This resulted in enormous savings across the thousands of changes being promoted through their landscape every quarter.
