Free Starbucks. Expensive SAP change rework.
Earlier this year, I signed my wife and I up for some life insurance with Vitality.co.uk
For somebody like me (Scottish. Not enough exercise. Deep fried Mars bars), it’s absolutely brilliant. Not only do Vitality offer loads of incentives for doing exercise (free cinema tickets, free Starbucks, even half-price gym membership) - their website also allows you to track your progress against goals using wearable devices like Fitbits.
Suddenly I have fresh reason to cycle to work and hit the 10000 steps a day recommendation. Free coffee. Free films. And lower insurance premiums at the end of each year. Hurrah for Vitality insurance! One of the most innovative non-tech companies I have come across in a while.
But of course this post isn't intended to be a marketing plug for Vitality life insurance.
The primary reason for it is that one of Basis Technologies’ new products is going to help our customers do something similar in their SAP estate: to monitor and improve the general health of their SAP Change & Release processes via a set of measurable metrics and benchmarks.
DevAnalytics, which forms part of our wider DevOps Toolset, helps SAP customers identify potential issues and areas for improvement in five key areas:

An early adopter programme that some of my colleagues have been running over the last few months has provided some really positive feedback and observations.
All of a sudden these customers are able to easily track their SI’s and internal IT team’s SAP change delivery against some key performance indicators (and even industry averages). They're also then able to track the success of any improvement plans they subsequently implement in order to help them meet their targets.
In a previous job, I used to spend hours each month manually collating data to be included in Service Delivery Reports. Manual data that was prone to human error and that the customer could never have 100% trust and confidence in, no matter how much time and effort that I spent trying to ensure its accuracy. With DevAnalytics, those same customers could have obtained the data and metrics themselves, on an almost real-time basis.
If you are interested in seeing what DevAnalytics and our wider DevOps Toolset could do for your organization, please get in touch . And no, before you ask. Basis Technologies doesn’t offer free coffee or reduced annual subscription prices to our customers that deliver SAP change with a 0% rework rate. Now there’s a thought...
