The Challenges
With the consumer shift from hard-copy media to digital downloads and streaming content, NBCUniversal was finding that while its SAP financial transactions were becoming less complex, the company was seeing a vast increase in the volume of transactions.
SAP financial reports were taking longer and longer to run and there was no real-time view of the performance across a wide range of processes and financial transactions. Despite a significant investment in SAP, it was difficult to make key business decisions quickly.

NBCUniversal needed to find a way to optimize its finance processes on the existing SAP system. Basis Technologies offered Z Accelerators as a viable solution in order to improve ABAP workflow and improve processing times on the existing SAP instance. NBCUniversal managed to significantly improve processing times on its existing SAP instance. NBCUniversal’s finance department is operating more efficiently; sequential processes that used to take 4-5 hours are substantially shortened, enabling reports and processes to finish much sooner so that staff can focus on other strategic activity.
By using Z accelerators NBCUniversal’s Month End and ‘book balancing’ is a much faster process, meaning greater confidence in its financial position.
The company also uses ActiveControl to manage change on their NetWeaver systems, for full automation of the SAP change and release management process.
